About Gretna Old Parish Church

The picturesque Old Parish Church is truly the heart of Gretna Green, and has borne witness to countless thousands of Gretna Green weddings over the centuries. The present church, which in part may date from the 17th Century, probably stands on or close to the sight of it\'s medieval predecessor, which is first mentioned about 1170. A fragment of late medieval window moulding and what may be two similar fragments are built into the west wall.

The timbered roof and Gothic stained glass windows, fragment of which date from original the medieval church, undeniably set the old parish church apart from other Gretna venues and add to the unique and special atmosphere of this historic building.

The church\'s secluded setting and private lawns and gardens are ideal for your photographs, and the service of the church organist is also included in the venue hire fee should you require them.

There is no charge for the minister at this venue.

  • No photography or video is allowed during the actual service but is very welcome both beforehand and at the conclusion of the service, when the freedom of the church and its grounds is yours for your photography.
  • The service is performed by a Church of Scotland minister, a registrars service is not available at this venue.
